GIANT STEPS is an Afrocentric approach to Blackness Now!
Dashiki poet Lefifi Tladi guides us on a journey of consciousness, analysing and interpreting the meaning of independence as opposed to freedom. He is accompanied on this radical exploration by the cream of South African poets, musicians, dancers and visual artists, including Zim Ngqawana, Don Laka, Kgafela oa Magogodi, Lesego Rampolokeng, Afurakan, Mac Manaka, Thabo Mashishi, Moshe Maboe, Moeketsi Koena and Motlhabane Mashiangwako. GIANT STEPS is a moving tribute to its co-director, Bra’ Geoff Mphakati, who passed away tragically during the filming of this, his first documentary.

just saw giant steps. those two pieces with the mirror image were
beautiful. i realy like that. i love it when images have a feeling of
almost clumsy-weight and delicasy at the same time. fragile.

hi there
i got to see for the first time, your Giant steps production on SABC 1. i was sooooo taken, i got to understand the whole movement, the thinking and the motivation behind the moving poetry , that in most cases happens underground.Obviously there is a lot more that one needs to learn, but the piece yesterday definitely opened one’s eyes.
we would like to see more of that, and in fact i will make sure that my 11 year old niece watches-no matter how late.we need people, especially you people, to be conscientised.
i have a few people who are also interested, where can we see you guys?or access your work?
thanks a lot.

Hi Aryan,
A very belated ‘hello’ and thanks for making the stay in Jo’berg so memorable. For me it was truly the highlight of our whole trip - the power and inspiration from being one in the room of your launch of giant steps in particular was absolutely astounding and overwhelming at the time. Life changing stuff. I’m only sorry it has taken me this long to voice the effect of your work. You are a very courageous man and it’s so great to see your talents extending over here. I look forward to seeing the sms sugar man film soon!
Hope you are well and keep thriving!
All the best,
Andrea.
