“The Cuckolding” by Aryan Kaganof

Filed under: kagastories — ABRAXAS @ 12:40 am

She hates herself for calling but she can’t resist. There are two types of men, mysogynists and romantic frauds. The worst kind are the serial romantic frauds.

She knows all this. Knows he’s an actor. Knows he played his part. But what grates her is that he never called back. She doesn’t mind that he was playing, she was playing too, she’s a woman, but that he never called back – that can’t be forgiven. And therefore she calls him and offers to take him to dinner, on her. Humiliating as it is, it’s less humiliating than doing nothing and waiting for him to call. His not calling was a brilliant move.

He doesn’t recognize her voice. She has to give her name and even then it takes a few seconds before he clicks. It’s devastating to her ego, but more importantly, flames her desire. Now she has to have him tonight, to give him whatever it takes for him to call back.

“What you been up to?”

“Ag, Australian news.”

“What’s that?”

“Nothing happened today.”

“Would you like to meet me for drinks?”

“Throw in a hot meal, I’m broke, my bank cards got stolen.”

“Meet me in Melville.”

“Bring your own villain.”

What does he mean? She’s not sure. She’s only sure of her ovulation and the knowledge that he can mend it. All the other guys run after her, make fools of themselves, give flowers and presents. But tonight she wants to be mauled, to feel taken. It doesn’t matter that he’s an actor, that he’s probably a serial romantic fraud and a misogynist. None of that matters. That’s all politics from after language took hold. Tonight she needs to be thrust into from a place before language.

She kisses her husband goodbye.

“Don’t wait up, I’ll be late.”

He looks up from his Sunday Independent and smiles brightly. “Have fun. I love you.”
