    sheeeeeeez …. well that’s what happens when you continually define things in terms of what already exists…why is it certain south african critics like to show off how many books they’ve read or how much they know about better stuff from elsewhere…

    “the language and characterisation in hectic are universally weak and superficial ” - maybe that’s cos Hectic is a very South African book!

    “The three of us are sipping rooibos tea on the balcony of the zen centre, overlooking the hip graffitied trains that keep roaring by, transporting the coloured working class back to their ghettos out of sight of their so-called new south african white masters. there are no good masters” (hectic p 54)
