Ha, I just read on IMDB what’s going on in those first few stills. I really couldn’t tell, they’re so murky. And I guess I should be thankful for that!

yeah, that (imdb) review is not very accurate; it claims that the opening scene “takes up a considerable part of the running time of the film ” when actually it’s like a single minute out of the half hour short. it’s also not half as graphic or offensive as the reviewer makes it out to be, and it’s definently not just “shocking” for the sake of a shock. it’s based on the writings of Bataille (specifically The Dead Man and Madame Edwarda) and is very consistent in tone.
