a diasporic dirge (plangently)

Filed under: kagapoems — ABRAXAS @ 7:30 pm

you may laugh at this
but it’s very hard being a so-called white south african
the “african” part of that epithet is never really taken seriously
and yet it’s the most important part
and every time i sojourn in the north i become more and more acutely aware
that no matter how troubled my relationship with ma africa is
she is my mother
and that is something i can not not deny anymore
(lord how i’ve tried!)
it is as ontologically real as the stink of my kak
or the cluster of dreadlocked angels
that greets me every time i die

no matter how hard you try

The idea that you have to be black to be African is bollocks. We all came from here anyway, long time ago.

she’s a pretty bad mother. it’s obvious she doesn’t give a continental about her progeny.
