i awoke this morning
crying
repeating these words,
if you are not doing what you dream to do,
then your life is futile and of no consequence

    i’m gonna smash in the screen of my Mac with my face,
    shrug on the leather coat i inherited from my father,
    sling my bag over my shoulder,
    say ‘fuck you very much’ to the room in general,
    smile prettily at no one in particular through the blood gushing from my forehead
    and walk down past parliament to freedom.
    just as soon as this mag’s gone to print,
    just as soon as i can figure out how to pay the rent
