Tomoko Mukaiyama(pianist)+ Philip Mechanicus(photographer)

Artbeat publishers, in collaboration with G/P Gallery, has actively been introducing Japanese contemporary artists, by publishing Nobuyoshi Araki’s special photography book “YAMI NO HANA” and “entropix” by an upcoming photographer Taisuke Koyama, who is attracting even more attention by being presented at PARIS PHOTO 2008.
We are now happy to release much awaited new CD BOOK “en blanc et noir” by Tomoko Mukaiyama, a pianist / artist based in Holland and in Japan on 31st January 2009. Mukaiyama is highly appraised not only as a pianist but also as a contemporary artist by her installation work “you and bach” which was presented in Sydney Biennial 2006 and the art project “wasted” which will be introduced to the world in Echigo Tsumari Triennial 2009.
This new album will be the talk of the world for playing musical fragments like a tapestry sewn over 400 years, from Baroque pieces such as by J.P.Sweelinck and J.S.Bach to contemporary ones including Ligeti, Rihm and Mukaiyama’s own. “en blanc et noir” is also a LP-Jacket-sized “art book” of which inner sleeves being composed of unpublished portraits by her partner and a master of Dutch photography, the late Philip Mechanicus. What also cannot be missed is that it is edited and designed by Shigeo Goto and Hideki Nakajima, who had collaborated on countless art books including that of Ryuichi Sakamoto.
“en blanc et noir” will be sold not only in CD shops but also in museum shops, major book stores and concert venues.
A live event by Mukaiyama is also planned to be held in Daikan-yama, Tokyo, meeting the release on 31st January 2009 . Please don’t miss it!
