Bernard Shaw: history lies.

The political philosophy of non-violence is attributed to Gandhi. But Gandhi is either not quite honest or not thorough in research. An error by omission is a serious business, intentional or otherwise. The political philosophy of nonviolence, which takes the form of passive economic resistance, is a translation of Buddhist political philosophy, should be attributed to an American, Henry Olcott, Colonel, US Army.
He was a close friend of Madam Blavastky but went his own way in Sri Lanka. In 1966, the government of Sri Lanka issued a postal stamp in honor of Colonel Olcott.
Are young Indians aware of this historical fact? I doubt it. Is this fact taught in American high schools? I doubt it. Have the American government ever issued a postal stamp bearing his image?
I haven’t seen it. Young Americans run around, chanting “We Shall Overcome!” They glorify Martin Luther King. But Colonel Olcott was no Lutheran or even a Christian. He was a Buddhist. Of course, Christians don’t want to be reminded of that.
