the audience is
surprisingly attentive
though the piece
is in a language
no one understands
the discussion
afterwards is
eloquent and polite
but there’s no respite
from reality
that refuses
to become
banal
the current discourse
offers no recourse
as the only so-called
black man on the panel
tells it like it is
people don’t care
about your white art
they’re only worried
about getting to work
on time
to put bread
on the table
