“one of the most terrible and most beautiful sex scenes in the history of cinema”

“DEAD MAN 2: return of the dead man” begins with one of the most terrible and most beautiful sex scenes in the history of cinema. Two men, neither of them looking like they have a chance in hell to win the Playmate of the Year award from Playgirl - that is, two men like you and me - are sitting on a heap of garbage or something like that and are jerking each other off, like real rough guys. Then one of them pukes (!) on to the other, partly into his mouth, partly on his body and his cock. The other man comes, both of them lie back, spent and satisfied, they talk, laugh and are happy.
This scene functions like the razor cutting the eye in “Un Chien Andalou”. It’s strange that the best sex scenes (the best because they are the truest) are always found in rare movies like this one - I am reminded of some scenes in Jorg Buttgereit, or all the early films of Carl Andersen.
After this manic beginning the pissing scenes later on in the film seem almost commonplace - but at the same time of an extraordinary beauty. Piss scenes aren’t my thing really, and lately all porn films are full of them - until now I hadn’t seen a single piss sex scene which could put across the kick of being pissed on..until now that is.
Apart from all these beautiful sensations there is more, for instance the story. THE DEAD MAN arrives at a zombie bar, has some piss, witnesses a murder, and comes back. Images from the Waco massacre, accompanied by industrial music by MERZBOW, impressions of loves scenes and past loves.
Without a doubt, “THE DEAD MAN 2: RETURN OF THE DEAD MAN” is a poem; in addition, it’s a film of its time, while also transcending its time. It’s not a document of the late postmoderns of the early nineties, but a postmodern poem transcending postmodernity by far; perhaps it is mannerist but then so is its Baroque style (which is not an argument).
