Artevo debut at Gallery Luova 8.5-6.6.2009
Artevo (Art Evolving) is a new form of art relying on old traditions of storytelling, while presenting important subject matter in a fresh package.
The artist behind Artevo is Vesa Kivinen. He was educated as a film director in the UK and this is his debut exhibition.
“The process starts by me using a woman’s body as a canvas. The end result consists of traditional painting, body painting, photography and a few undisclosed factors, which I call Artevo”. He has managed to make works that are dreamy and full of visual texture, which when seen in a large format feel almost hypnotic.
Words like primitive, strong and pure spring to mind. The stories of the models have been a part of the creative process. Storytelling is present giving you a sense of the artist’s background, yet the viewer seems free to interpret the image as they like and find new ways to look at them.
Many of the works are a reference to turning points, moments and situations that require courage and personal strength. In his self portrait the cracking paint surface gives an air of a decaying public front, de-masking and a step towards a pure & unpretentious identity.
Breaking barriers and taboos seems to be the core of Artevo. This is something that Vesa refers to in his personal quest for primitivity and purity: ” An individual’s relationship to the world and his past can often seem cloudy and confusing. In order to reach objectivity and personal freedom one must dig very deep in order to see through personal viewpoints and agendas of various institutions”.
Artevo is also exploring a new way of pricing art, as each High End print (Silisec metallic) doubles it price without a set limit of prints. All high end prints are approx 1.5×1m in size (5×3.5 feet)
