Joshua Tree Rock Climbing Routes

Rock climbing is for adventurous souls. You should stay out of it if you are faint-hearted. If you believe you can do it, then you certainly can. One of the best places to enjoy rock climbing is Joshua Tree. It happens to be the largest climbing area in the whole of North America.

Joshua Tree National Park is regarded as the most otherworldly landscape in the United States. Located at the intersection of the Majove and the Colorado deserts, it is about 2.5 hours from Los Angeles and has a lot of things in stock for adventurers.

Large Park, Many Routes

One of the things that make Joshua Tree the quintessential rock climbing destination is the sheer number of routes it has. Reportedly, there are more than 80,000 climbing routes and countless boulder problems spread out on various formations, outcrops, domes, and cliffs. Making a choice can be pretty difficult if you are going to the place for the first time.

Another major reason Joshua Tree is loved by all is the fact that it has something for everyone. Irrespective of your experience level, you can find a rock climbing rock that suits you perfectly. You may need to ask lots of questions so that you find what fits you and your companions (if you go with other people) perfectly.

The Routes

Clearly, we can’t list all the rock climbing routes in Joshua Tree here. However, here are important places you should know about:

Trashcan Rock

This is one of Joshua Tree’s most popular crags and is normally crowded on weekdays. You will find climbs for the beginners in the west face, while the east face has harder routes. All the climbs require gear anchors.

Hound Rocks

There are two rock formations here, split by a narrow canyon, which was used as a miner’s camp at some point. The major climbs here are the Right Baskerville Crack and the Tossed Green.

White Cliffs of Dover

There are innumerable cliffs here, and they feature Yosemite-like cracks and corners. In the smooth, fine-grained granite, you will find lots of climbing routes.

There you have it! Above are some Joshua Tree rock climbing routes. Joshua Tree National Park has lots of rock climbing routes we can begin to mention here. The three locations discussed here have some of the major ones to explore. An amazing experience awaits you as you climb rocks and export the interesting side of nature during your visit to the Joshua Tree National Park.
